all the people around me seem to be tourists
FANTASTIC views, cruddy service and mediocre food. AHH, that's magic in the making!

I should have known better when all the people around me seem to be tourists, or locals who obligingly take their tourist family members there just because it's THE San Francisco thing to do.

Do yourself a favor and see Golden Gate Bridge instead and your wallet will thank you too.

great service, nice setting, bad portion size
went here with my fiancee for a romantic night. got the window seat we requested. hostess and server were both very nice. location is beautiful and very classy. the food was a bit disappointing. very beautifully prepared and everything was cooked to perfection. ordered the crab cake appetizer... didnt realize $19 only bought ONE crabcake. my fiancee ordered the scallops for her main course. very disappointed. it was incredibly salty. 4 scallops topped with shredded pork (10 times more salty than bacon). so salty that it was almost inedible. but the upside was the scallops were cooked perfectly. but for $36 4 scallops didnt quite fill a normal sized stomach. i had the steak and it was awesome. mushrooms were a nice touch... asparagus cooked to perfection. but what really stood out was the potatoes au gratin. they were the best potatoes ive ever had! the steak had good flavor, no need for A1 or any other condiments. very impressed with the steak. but i had to split my meal with my fiancee because the scallops just didnt quite cut it. overall i would come back, but only 3 stars this time because we didnt leave the restaurant with our stomachs full.... which is really the main reason why we go eat.

Fantastic view
Ate at the Cliff House "Bistro". Had the Macadamia Nut crusted Halibut ($23), Fish & Chips ($17), and Fruitti de Mare ($24) a pasta dish with scallops, crab meat, mussels, and rock shrimp. All were excellent, served hot. Service was superb. Start your dinner early to get the spectacular sunsets; you are just south of the Golden Gate on Pt. Lobos; stunning location. About 30 street parking spots in front; no underground parking.

Just visit, don't eat
After looking at their website, I was excited to visit this restaurant when I recently visited SF. My boyfriend and I both were very disappointed and with all the other fine restaurant options in the city we wished we would have just visited the Cliff House and moved on.
The food was very overpriced for the quality and the sides weren't even editable. It?s not hard to make green beans and rice but the taste was so bad (or under done) we only ate the chicken and left with disappointment. Even thought the view is beautiful, there were so many tourists outside, many on skateboards and plenty looking up at you as you ate, you started to only look at the people and forgot the Pacific Ocean was there for your enjoyment.
I'll never bother to return to this restaurant, it wasn't even worth the drive to visit.

Great food, service and location
I took my fiance to SFO for this vacation, booked a table over the phone.
Although I was told they couldn't garanty a window table, they managed to place us near the window.
The service was good, discreet and efficiant, I had an excellent fish and my fiancee rumsteak, which was really tasty and tender. Although it was a little pricy, I felt it was excellent value for money.
We definitaly will go back there next time we go to SFO.
