Not a fan. Broke toe in oversized shoe
So I did the famous Shoe Dog thing where you run on this machine and it analyzes this and that. Based on the output, the reps will then find you the perfect shoe in your perfect size. I needed a cross training kind of shoe. I have worn a size 9 running/cross training shoe for years and but the Shoe Dog guy swore up and down that I needed a 10.5 with inserts. It was huge. I said no. They guy went down a half size and it was still huge. I finally settled on a 9.5 and though I thought it was still too big, I bought it. I know feet swell after running and I had several employees tell me I should at least get a size 10.

I should say that the shoes are awesome, the way they were sized is not.

So I go to bootcamp, kickboxing and run typically. The shoes are crap for kickboxing because you stop and pivot all the time and there is way too much room in the toe so my foot slides around too much.

And yesterday at bootcamp, we were running against restraint and somehow my foot rolled inside the shoe and I broke my pinky toe.

Not pleased. They have a great selection of shoes but the Shoe Dog thing is complete BS in my experience. I won't go back and I called and they wouldn't take the shoes back.

Road Runner Sports is like a Costco for running! Located off the 52, it has a "warehouse look" just like Costco and has everything you can think of for running. I purchased insoles for my shoes which are highly recommended to avoid shin splints. A friend of mine is a personal trainer and referred me to this place. The staff was sooo nice; they measured my feet to see where I carried my weight - pronation, supination, all that good stuff - and then they got me the right insole for my "type." Bring your shoes because they "install" them for you!
Pros: Friendly and knowledgeable staff. HUGE selection!
Cons: None I can think of.

The Jimmy Choo of Running Shoo's
I picked up running (OK jogging!) after a long break back in September of 2010. After some exhaustive research online, I decided to hit Roadrunner Sports to try on a few pairs. The best thing about RR is that they have almost every shoe currently on the market. You can try them all on until you are comfortable with the ones that work for you.

ShoeDog is their custom fitting program which helps you pick the right shoe for your given situation - pronation etc. I could take it or leave it as I already knew what I needed before I walked in the store.

Pricing for the current year's model was high compared to the larger online retailers, but the service, convenience + the immediate gratification might be worth it to some.

When I finally settled on a shoe, I almost fell off the bench when I saw the price - I looked at the soles to see if they were made of gold or even worse if they were Red (ask your wife!)

I chose to hit the clearance section before I left and was happy to find last year's version of the shoe I liked at almost 50% off.

One last note - They really do have everything you need as a runner - Accessories, clothing etc. Now if I could only find someone to do the running for me!
