I live near this pizza shop and visit it all the time. I've been to every pizza store in Oakland and San Leandro, and this is the best value to quality I've found.

I'll admit to being partial to the home town. If you haven't been here, it's a relatively undiscovered jewel. We have all kinds of restaurants that serve great food for less than you find in a lot of surrounding cities.

That said, the dough and toppings are fresh at Chicago Pizza, and all are of good quality. The prices are really good compared to any of the chains.

They'll make the crust any way you want, but the regular has a thick rolled up edge that puffs up to be light in the oven. The dough has a slight but pleasant yeast aroma and taste when it is cooked. I love it.

Unlike some of the chain stores, they don't burn the edge of their crust at this shop.

Not a whole lot of atmosphere - it's mostly a takeout place. The owners are friendly and are good fun to talk to. They will tell you they are trying to pass on the best prices to the customer, so don't look for the kid's play house, arcade, salad bar, or any of that stuff. They'll tell you that you get what you pay for, so if you want a $5 pizza, you'll have to go somewhere else.

But there are a couple of tables inside. It's defititely worth a try. And they take care of their good customers. Make sure to ask if there is a special when you go.....
