Old Chicago Atmosphere
I lived near Joe's for several years before I gave it a try and since have become a regular. True, they have a limited menu and once in awhile you get a dish that isn't great, but on the whole, the food is always on par or better than comparative restaurants. The burgers are great; my family loves the sausage and peppers and I love the wings...can make a meal on them alone. The key lime pie always makes a refreshing end to a meal.
As for service, we've alway had good to excellent service. Once in a while it can be a bit slow, but with the great atmosphere of the place, you can sit, relax, look at all the neat memorabilia or watch a game. The bar area is almost always busy with laughter and good times and depending on the timing of your meal, the dining rooms can be either crowded or quiet. The waitstaff has always been attentive to us, has at times made special dishes and I've never had to wait for the check.
The mixed drinks are different with each bartender, sometimes excellent and sometimes not. This is a place for great beer...nobody can mess that one up!
All in all, great familiar foods, great atmosphere, no attitude or pretentions, and a fantastic outdoor seating area.
