The only place I'll take my car for repairs.
My wife had been going to them before we got married, and for a while I thought she was just being particular, but now I know why. Three stories:
1) My car, 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, had a piece that broke off the clutch pedal which connected the pedal to the clutch cylinder. I had rigged it to work most of the time, but would pop out at very dangerous times, like driving on the interstate. So I took it to the dealership. The part was going to be $20, but because it's nowhere near a routine repair, the head mechanic had to guess that it would take 3 hours to take the pedal completely off, etc. for $285. I took it to CIA and the part was about the same price, but it only took them a half-hour so I paid $40-50 in labor. It's great to have something that was quoted at $300 fixed for $85 with an oil change.
2) My wife's car, 1990 Honda Accord, was killing batteries. I would put a new one in, it would run just fine, but the next morning that battery was dead again. I took the battery back to the store for the warranty, and after installing the new battery took the car for an alternator check, which didn't indicate any problems. I disconnected the battery until I could take it to CIA. After explaining the problem to the owner, he and I walked out so that I could show him, and the moment we stepped out the door, he said: "I know what your problem is." A small piece of rubber had come off the brake pedal causing the brake lights to stay illuminated, draining the battery. He checked inside for the part to see if he could fix it on the spot, but had to order it. Again, cheap.
3) My wife's car was running really rough. We were afraid it was near the end. Not more than an hour after dropping it off, I got the call on my cell. All it needed was a tune-up: $295. They could have easily come up with a dozen other problems (it is a '90) and I had already indicated that we'd probably be willing to put $500 into it.
CIA is programed into my cell.
