Abhorrent Customer Service
Not all the employees are rude, but the manager of this place takes the cake for bad customer service. If you are a vinyl buyer I would highly recommend Amoeba or another store. CD Trader has very high prices for collectable LPs, and a no-return policy on new LPs.

I have been a loyal customer for the past year spending $100-200 a month on mostly vinyl and some CDs/DVDs. Over the course of a year I have returned 4 LPs all brand new, each with a very bad and obvious defect, ie bad warp or off center spindle hole. Each time I was given a hassle and treated rudely in returning a brand new defective LP, as if it was my fault the product was defective, or I was "just being to picky".

Today was the last straw when I tried to return a new 2 record set that had an obvious large warp on both LPs and was unplayable on my system. The manager refused to refund or exchange my copy for another, complaining to me that it was not his fault that the record was defective and that I am just too picky a customer and will not take anymore returns from me.

In this economy what kind of store manager would turn away a loyal paying customer to save a few dollars on a single purchase??? The funny thing is that the records I previously returned just ended up back on the shelf reduced by a $1-2 or re-wrapped as new.

All I can say is buyer beware, drive to Amoeba for a better music selection, no-hassle return policy and great customer service. It’s worth the extra drive!

PS: I just read through the other reviews here, the common thread is the bad customer service and attitude of the employees. Funny how the first few reviews sound just like a store advertisement, instead of a real review from a real person???

Biggest bunch of A-holes; right out of High Fidelity
the attitude is amazing. You have to see it to believe it. Bunch of geeks who are mean and rude. I will never go back again unless I want to get a huge laugh.

CD Trader's prices are not the only thing that is cheap
This place is mediocre at best. Yes, there are occasional finds for decent prices. Yet, the rotation is slow! I have attempted to bring in good dvd & lp material for trade or sale, but the offers these guys give are insulting to the collector. They don't even give a higher percentage for store credit. Come on guys, are you serious?! Don't they realise that it is good for business? I recommend Amoeba to all that read this. The customer service is another area of concern. CD Trader is just not cutting it for the collector.

sliding way downhill
This used to be a really great place. Amazing finds used for 5.99 or even 3.99, though most are 7.99.

I was there last week and bought 9 CDs. It turned out both discs of a double-disc album were horribly scratched, so much that my CD player wouldn't even play it. When I brought the CDs back the next day, they just pointed at their "no returns" sign and refused to take the album back. They claimed they would never have sold CDs in that condition. Without my receipt, my cause was hopeless; so I ate the loss and vowed never to return.

If there was no such thing as Amoeba, I would consider going back to CD Trader, but since there is - screw you, CD Trader!

I hereby proclaim this store only for the use of deep west valleyites who don't feel like driving to Amoeba.

great selection by Eric W. at InsiderPages
This place rocks. I first discovered this store around 1990 or so. I have yet to find a used music store as good as this one. They have a great selection. You can find CD's, LP's, imports, new & used, VHS, DVD's and lots of other stuff. You can listen to the used CD's before you buy them, which has saved me from buying some real bad discs in the past. They also have a customer loyalty program where you can earn free music. The staff isn't the greatest, but the shop sure is. They also buy used product for cash or store credit.

PROS: great selection. listen to music before you buy
CONS: the staff could be more helpful
