We stayed at the Casa Tropicana in the first week of April. San Clemente is a cute littel town and the hotel is right across from all of the action at the pier. We went to the beach (they had chairs and umbrellas and towels for us) and had dinner on the pier. Now to the room. Our room was not an ocean view room but the deck is an ocean view deck. The room was beautiful, clean and upscale without being at all pretentious. It is not the St. Regis and does not pretend to be, but everything is very nice. The prices are a teeny tiny bit steep but compared to other hotels that are at the pier the prices are very fair. It is definately the nicest, newest, cleanest place at the beach and worth the couple bucks more. The small staff were very helpful and attentive and really added to the stay. We will go back and advise friends to do the same!
