An old-world master
Our home overlooks the San Francisco Bay and we searched for an “old world master” - a stone carver - to create the image of Poseidon for our fireplace. We found the wonderfully talented, easy to work with, Jim Gray. Well, he's not old, but his work speaks of old-world mastery. Jim's broad knowledge of the European masterpieces, as well as the history and mechanics of stone carving helped us to find an image to work with and a way to adapt it to fit our vision. The size and scope of the project made it imperative that our feedback be incorporated into the facial features (not too scary) and Jim's models gave us a stunning preview of how the final piece would appear. Our Poseidon looks exactly as Jim's model predicted. We have an amazing, one-of-a-kind fireplace that we enjoy immensely. We still marvel at Poseidon's beauty and our friends tell us they leave with a sense that they've been hanging out in a museum with a special piece of fine art.
