I go to Carter Sexton for all the supplies I need for my art class. They have everything you could possibly need. And if your not sure what you should use the staff are always there. They are all knowledgeable artists that are eager to help.

A wide variety for the professional, amateur, or student artist! You get a discount (I believe 10%) if you're a student but you must tell them and show them you school id. Great staff, a tad bit priceybut you can find any art supply at Carter's, it's amazing. The store is a bit small but it's fully equiped for any type of artist (watercolor paints, brushes, papers, books, clays, canvases, etc.) You name it, they have it. Staff is very knowledgable and give good tips/advice if you're iffy on something.

CONS: A little more expensive than chain stores

This is a cool privately owned business. They people here are nice. They don't gouge you on prices, but require a 5 dollar minimum. If you're nice enough they will let you by single sticks of chalk if you are in a bind. They have a huge
assortment of brushes and charcoal pencils and chalks. Try to help the little guys stay in business and
buy from these places whenever you can. They put up local art pieces on consignment and I have never seen so many selection of papers for
any kind of mixed media. You should check out their shelf of instructional art books and they also sell small art kits of pastels and caligraphy.
It is on East side of Laurel Canyon just North of Magnolia Blvd. Next door is an easel store where they sell art desks and furniture.
