I have had many experiences with Mike and Brookfield Auto Care
I have had many experiences with Mike and Brookfield Auto Care over several years and four or five vehicles. I am a consumer that does his homework, I ask lots of questions and double check the answers through various sources.
Mike is hardworking and honest. I would (and do) recommend his services to anyone. Fixing a car can get expensive, I don't like throwing money at my car(s) either, but that is not the mechanics fault. You must trust them. I know from experience that no one person can make everyone happy. So, if at the end of the day Mike's diagnosis of 'waukeegirls' car was accurate, she should restate her comments.

I am just a random person researching local repair shops. In doing so, I made a very interesting observation. The mechanic "Mike" had told Waukeegirl all of the things that were wrong with her vehicle and and that, in time, she will end up doing all of these repairs which will cost more money. One of these items being the front brakes that were just replaced but not done properly. This is where it gets good. If you go to Waukeegirl's recent reviews, one of them is for Meineke doing work on her misfire issue. Then there is an update where 2 months later she had them do her front brakes. So approximately 2 months after Mike had diagnosed all these problems her brakes failed and needed replacement.
This does prove that you need to have a proffesional look at your vehicle. Most mechanics would probobly just look at the ammount of pad material left and leave it at that. I believe that this proves how thorough Mike at Brookfield auto is.
Also I think it is funny that she is still having problems with her brakes after having them replaced by Meineke. I wonder if she is regreting not having Mike do the work yet. Probobly not, she doesn't sound too smart. It wont be till her car overheats and blows a head gasket because she runs low on coolent from a leaking water pump, or something like that.
To Mike... I would not hesitate to take my vehicle to you. This has all just proved to me how thorough you are when analyzing a vehicle. I am a contractor and know first hand how it is to be in a business where people just assume you are screwing them right off the bat. I operate my business with honesty and integrity and my marketing through client referrals. It sounds like you do the same, and I respect that.
To Waukeegirl... Everybody knows you don't take your vehicle to Meineke. What were you thinking? It sounds like you made some poor decisions by jumping to conclusions. Just because you take your vehicle to the "McDonalds" of auto repair and they replace a few parts does not mean they did a thourough inspection and got to the root of the problem. You will find out, in time.

I was having problems with my car and this was the first place
I was having problems with my car and this was the first place I took it. After Mike had my car overnight, and charged me for a diagnostic, he told me the following:

1) I had a leak in my nearly-new water pump
2) my distributor needed to be replaced (and it would cost$ 300 just for the part)
3) my rear-brake drums were warped
4) my plugs and wires currently installed in the car were excellent quality and in great shape--even though I was suspect of their quality upon installation a couple years back--and Mike also said that the plugs and wires were not the cause of my engine problems.

Mike then proceeded to quote me $1300 to fix my engine and get it running correctly.

Over a thousand dollars seemed steep, and this estimate just seemed a little strange.

So, I took my car to another shop for a second opinion. I went in and told them NOTHING about what mike said, nothing concerning my suspicions about what might be wrong, and nothing about being to another mechanic; I only asked them to do a diagnostic and tell me what was wrong with my car. Here, it only took them 30 minutes to drive my car, run a full diagnostic (no charge), and tell me my problem (mis-firing) and the cause...

The cause of the misfire? NO, NOT a broken distributor like Mike said, but a few worn-out wires that hooked into the spark plugs...and these wires were literally BROKEN and, as a result, no longer even connected to the spark plugs. Broken wires: This was the problem. At the second (honest) shop it cost me $220, and one hour, to replace all my spark-plugs and wires, which included labor. And now my car runs GREAT. Misfire gone. Car solid. Acceleration excellent.

Later I also found out that it is not possible for brake drums to be warped (only rotors: as per Honda dealer mechanic).

In retrospection I can only come up with two conclusions:

1) While doing the diagnostic, Mike missed the fact that plugs and wires were blown--which would indicate that this is a terribly inexperienced and unreputable shop.

OR

2) Mike found the problem (broken wires); he knew it was a relatively cheap and easy fix, and he hoped to make a lot of money for doing very little work.

I find it hard to believe that Mike could have missed the fact that the wires were BROKEN, because he told me that he inspected the plugs and wires and that they were all high quality components and not the cause of my engine trouble.

Whether Brookfield Auto Care is dishonest or incapable--I will NEVER return to this shop.

The only good thing I have to say about my experience with Mike at Brookfiled Auto Care is that my car was washed when I picked it up, and that Mike was SO nice when I spoke with him; everything he said was sweet and positive, and he kept saying that he would make sure that I got the best deal...but in hindsight it seems like it was all lip-service.

Save yourself a lot of money by taking your car to someone reputable--a place other than Brookfield Auto Care.

I am SO glad I looked for a second opinion.
