Birley's makes the best sandwiches. My favorite is the grilled vegie with goat cheese. I make this a stop each time I am around the Embarcadero! It is very casual. They do have some seating, but I reccomend getting your food to go and dining outdoors in the park right outside their door.

This is one of my favorite casual dining spots in town. If you want to have gourmet sandwich, this is the place you need to try..... All the sandwich there are delicious and a lot of selections. I love the curry chicken salad sandwich the most. You just don't know how they can make such a good balance between spicy and sweet. Tasty and fresh.

We eagerly awaited the opening of this sandwich shop only to find that they are only open for lunch and the place gets so crowded at lunch, you don't have time to get lunch from them since you spend so much time waiting. Their sandwiches and salads are good. It's just too bad they don't stay open longer since some of us don't get a break at noon.

Poor customer service.
I called to place an order for delivery... The person who answered the phone was very rude. I then asked to talk to the manager. He was the manager and he hang up on me.
I then go over there, like if it was not enough... I had to wait on line to order a sandwich and then again to order a salad then finnaly to pay...
Poor customer service, I will NEVER go back...

Wow -- very hard to pick a sandwich because the range of possibilities is enormous. If you're doing low-carb the salads are amazing too but I couldn't pass up the great bread. Obviously the person designing these sandwiches is a chef -- you are eating ingredients the average deli guy won't even think of -- using olive oils, sauces, fruits&veggies to make a sandwich most delicious.
