Smokers Only!
I guess this would be a great place to stay for smokers because you wouldn't worry about leaving it smelling like 40 years of old smoke the next morning. I stayed here on my first night in Indiana, before I had any experience in choosing motels under my belt, so I didn't think to ask for a non-smoking room, though I imagine they all smelled the same. I wasn't feeling too picky since it was 1:30 AM when I finally found a place to check in that didn't look too expensive--which it wasn't. I was feeling guilty to have awakened the lady clerk. I had called first to inquire the price after looking through the phone book at the cute little Sunshine Inn (see my review). My goal was to stay in inexpensive places. the clerk gave me the key to my room and I went in and didn't even take my suitcase in. I was just so tired from my day of travelling I crashed in my clothes. The managers weren't very cheerful and friendly the next morning when I checked out either. Later, when I got out of the car to go into AAA for some maps, I noticed a strong smoke smell in the car when I opened the door to get back in! And I don't even smoke! It was that purveyant just from sleeping in the smoky-smelling bed the night before. The room and the bathroom hadn't looked all that clean and I didn't get the impression it was the best area of town either. I'd never heard of yelp at that point so I didn't know I could look places up to see what other people's experiences were. Glad I know about it now!
Bottom line, if you are looking for cheap and don't mind the strong smoke smell permeating your clothes, stay here. Otherwise, keep looking.
