I stumbled across best bread in the shopping center while on a mission to GNC. I must have walked or driven by this place over 100 times before it caught my eye with a patron walking out with loafs of bread. I had to check it out and was very glad that I did. I was amazed! It's a big full on bakery hidden away in there that has been around for over 20 years. I bought a great loaf of super fresh sour dough bread along with some french bread for dinner. I don't think I will ever by regular store brought bread again!

I first discovered Charlie's Best Bread when I was a volunteer at Great News Cooking School. Charlie's would provide fresh bread for each of the cooking classes (talk about great marketing!) The bread was always delicious and fresh.
The main type of bread I have bought from Charlie's is their Challah. By far the most delicious challah ever! Every time I have taken it to a family dinner, people always have commented on who amazing the taste is.
What is great is that they bake challah everyday AND they offer a variety of flavors (sesame, poppyseed, chocolate chip, raisin, plain). You can also special order a loaf in advance and have other things baked inside.
I would highly recommend this bakery. Though it’s a bit expensive, the organic breads and muffins cannot be beat.

I first experienced this excellent bread at the Hillcrest farmer's market. Since then I have not purchased a loaf anywhere else. I especially recommend the squaw and nine grain. Save some room for visits to the Pacific Beach location as the samples are enormous (once my sample was half of a large cinnamon roll!) Loaves vary in price from $4-$6 and weigh as much as 1kg... a solid value. I can't say enough good things... try it for yourself!
