I've been going to Bass Lake since I was a kid nearly 50 years ago, and I still go there every year. It's about 3500 feet and into the tree line. It's big enough to ski in, and there are some nice swim areas too. Plenty of camp grounds, lodges, food stores, and restaurants. It's also very close to Oakhurst, where you can get anything you might need, and on the way to Yosemite.
