This place is great. It's right by the beach and has a cool beach / surfer atmosphere. They play surf videos and have some very funny other wall signs / displays. The food is really good and very reasonably priced.
The service has always been very good and friendly. They are becoming famous for their burgers and rightfully so.

I love the burgers here. You can totally taste the quality. However, my favorite part is the rosemary bun. I keep meaning to ask where they're from because I totally would go out and buy them. I also like their special sauce. I know it's fattening but I dip my fries in it anyway.

It is pet friendly but you'll have to eat on that little enclosed patio if you want to have a beer. They have picnic tables outside of that, but you can't drink there. And what's the point of that, really. FYI - that little patio gets ocean breezes and even on a sunny day can be freezing. We were there the other day when it was super sunny and even my dog was shivering.

Beer is pretty good and the burger, fries and a beer for $10 is a deal for the quality you get.

This place has great burgers! Definitely delicious and huge, they also have a great beer selection and really tasty appetizers (french fries and onion rings). Their burgers are cooked really well, they've got awesome sauce and they've also got a great selection of different styles. They even have that traditional NZ style one with egg and beet root salad! The only downside is the wait. It's small and seat your self so you end hanging in the door way silently competing with other waiting people for a table. Try and get there early!

And I use the word treat on purpose. This place is great if you want a nice filling and wrong/right kinda grease to get you through your hangover.
They do great happy hour deals, but outside of that the burgers can be kinda pricey, which is why it's the sort of place you don't go for a quick bite.
One thing that they excel in are the fries, just stupidly good! And the onion rings are mighty fine too. Drinks are very reasonable, and they have all kinds of deals and offers on at most times of the week.

I would recommend this place if you need a guilty pig-out, probably some of the best burgers around.

Whoa! OK, this place is TRULY the best. I know that I maybe causing a rivalry here in mojopages over the reigning BEST BURGER IN SAN DIEGO but I don't care. You have to stand up in what you believe in and I believe that Bareback Grill is hands down the best burger in San Diego.
Don't hate me for saying this but it does blow away Rocky's. (cringing) That's right I said it! Bareback Grill or "Bareback" for short, is a New Zealand surf themed grill a block off Pacific Beach on Mission Blvd.
They have a great selection of "Kiwi" and Aussie beers as well as some wines if that interests you. The walls are adorned with Maori masks, All Blacks memoribilia and flat screens playing the latest surf flick.
The staff is very laid back but also attentive. The whole place has a pleasant and relaxed mellow vibe to it.

But enough of the fluff onto the burgers! The burgers are masterfully constructed with home made buns, specialty organic cheeses and New Zealand Angus beef.
The menu has plenty of burgers, grilled chicken and other sandwhices to fit your pallete. My personal favorite is the "Maui Wowie." A 1/2 pound NZ Angus burger with choice of cheese, grilled pineapple, bacon, red onion, tomatoe, lettuce and aioli sauce.
I personally add slices of beet root and a fried egg to top it all off. Throw in a basket of their fresh cut seasoned fries, a pint of Steinlager and I think then I've died and gone to heaven. (Writing this me is making me hungry!)
Even if you don't like the "Kiwi" style burgers like I do, you can order your burger just about anyway you like.

I have never had a better burger in my life. Not even when I lived in New Zealand did I have it this good. Hands down the best in San Diego. If you love Rocky's give Bareback just one chance, you won't regret it!
