Do NOT donate to the Hillcrest Baras
Do NOT donate to the Baras in the Hillcrest location. They leave the donations out in the open in their parking lot with no supervision (even during working hours), resulting in people walking right up off the street to steal your droff-offs. I donated a pair of New-In-Box 1930s women's alligator pumps and a pair of mint 1950s alligator pumps (total value $250 with receipts!) I saw the two women walk up and steal the shoes, put them in their maroon SUV (CA license 4WRF238). I told them that was stealing. I went inside Baras to ask to call the police, they refused, acted like complete victims and said they weren't allowed to use the phone. I went home, called police. Police came to my house and were great about the incident, and let me know that they have told Baras on 3 other identical occasions to change how they accept donations or at least hang a sign telling people not to steal donations. The policeman then went over to Baras to tell them they should have called and to do something to change their donation situation.
I should have just been greedy and sold the shoes on eBay or to a vintage clothing shop. Or I could have taken the $250 and donated it to a reputable charity.
No wonder people think there are no nice things at Baras. Now I wonder where all of the other mint vintage clothes, furniture, and dishes I have donated there have gone.
