A Yoga Class Like this is a Special Event
As the old saying goes, "When the student is ready, the teacher appears." Well, like me, there must now be a whole lot of ready students. It seems that a superb Level I class I go to there has become a little ... overattended lately. This is only one class, with either Susanna or Andrew, two of the more popular instructors there. I have to reconcile my opinions of how these weekend classes are the best yoga classes I'd ever been to in my entire life of over a half century, with how crowded it gets.
Incredibly, though, the sheer attendance at these classes is managed well.
Suggestion is to get Parks to rent out Lost Battalion to this studio for the following reasons:
(1) Each of these classes IS a special event,
(2) The students are all ready, and
(3) The teacher has appeared ... with bells on!
(4) Last but not least: If the neighborhood has any "bounce" to it, it will soon be home to another Bamboomoves ....
I JUST wish for a class less crowded just like the rest of you. That's the reason I left New York Sports Club--I can't afford to be a member of both a gym and a studio at the same time, and they'd had a really very good yoga class that I had to get to 45 minutes early ... just to reserve a spot....
I genuinely like studying with either more than just the most popular instructor there, or more than only that one instructor whose class fits my schedule. This seems to not be the case, generally, and not just for Level I classes. [Pleased to report that the Meditation class is very uncrowded. Of course, the Meditation class doesn't have much physical exercise in it. ]
I'm glad I'm even taking that class .. and the class with the deeply spiritual Yoshio ... and then there's the well-publicized class with Kaity .... You see, they'd used high-pressure tactics to try to get me to renew on a different basis than now. An unrestricted membership. I told them that my cost-free, convenient and time saving (but class-length) home practice is their only competition. Soon, as regards the home practice, they'd gotten used to that. They've later even encouraged it, going far beyond the call of duty. I truly believe it is their love for a self-motivated student, generated from an open heart, and not reverse psychology at work ...
I renewed as a card holder at a pretty nice discount, something I had to ask for. The reason being that I can hardly even afford that. I have some chronic, costly medical issues, and who knows what is happening with my job?
If it hadn't been for my big weekday commute, I might not have remained here at Bamboo--some community center may have gotten my yoga $$ instead (I CAN'T AFFORD privates, in-class privates, teacher training, asana workshops, or retreats ....)
For want of more time, and more space at the time, I'd had my "home practice"--including chanting--for over a year on the stretching areas of several New York Sports Clubs before this .... (Talk about being a fish out of water!!!)
But the bottom line is: I just happen to be a middle aged late-adopting, primarily home-practicing, early intermediate yoga student who's mostly a supercommuter during the week--and I wish to remain that way on all counts.
