What makes this Bally Total Fitness so good is the location and amenities. It is conveniently located off I-8 and the 163 Freeway near Hillcrest, North Park and Mission Valley. The amenities include all types of free weights, dumbbells, weight machines, cardio machines, numerous fitness rooms, walking track, pool, hot tub and sauna.
Pros: The facility does not lack for variety and will meet most discriminating tastes when it comes to fitness.
Cons: The staff is rather lackadaisical. On weekends, the locker and toilet facilities are dirty. And what is it with people and their cellphones in locker rooms and workout areas?
Price Range: $25 - $50

Mr universe Meet's The fat and ugly and the dummy.
This gym is the worst gym in SD Sal the Manger is a downsyndrome gentleman, who favore pantys over fitness and Katho the front (fake weekend manager is bad) as the underware dirty department in which service sucks they shoulkd resign and get fired. I want an immediate close down of all Balleys total fitness and need justice done, Period. If u see they give them the third finger. Fags are for Parades not ass clowns in Balleys circus.

I have been going to Ballys for years now. It is so sad to see it being so mismanaged. It wouldnt take to much effort on the managers part to at least make it look like a decent club. It's easier to keep your current customers happy than trying to get new ones, thats just basic marketing. It really just needs to be cleaned up. As you can guess, the main problem areas are the locker rooms and shower area. The locker doors have a layer of dust and grime that has been on them for at least a year or so and they never seem to sweep the floors. The showers of course are in really bad shape, it would be wonderful if they would at least spend a few dollars on the shower heads and get them all replaced and work correctly and just re-grout the tiles in the showers. Its funny , they have this sign in their lobby about all the future renovations that are planned for the club, I'm pretty sure none will ever happen and they really wouldn't need to spend much money if they would just do the little things right. I have tried to have a few friends join in the past and refuse to due to the locker and shower area. I hope the lack of attention in the men's area isn't just to scare off guys, straight or gay, from using the showers, that's just part of a gym. It should be a given that they all work correctly and actually and 'have soap in the dispensers'.
Anyway, in the rest of the common areas, they should really just take down the empty, broken display racks, etc, that would help the appearance. It's a shame that they cant manage to reopen the juice bar area, it seem like they could be making so much money if they had something like a Jamba juice or Bally Protein drinks available there. Instead, the area sits empty and all of the protein powders and bars area on a folding table in the lobby area. It's also sad that, years ago they converted the racquetball courts to general work out areas. That was a good nitch that they could have. It's also to bad they dont sell small workout towels or shower towels at the desk. They could be making some money on that also.
Its also to sad that they don't have a better group class schedule available, the upstairs room seems to be empty most of the time or else the classes are all mid day during the week when most of us are at work.
The staff there is nice enough however they don't seem to be useful for much of anything. They can't help you with any problems, they just tell you to call the corporate office for any needs you have about your account. The music there can be very hit and miss. Sometimes it's ok with something like pop music but part of the time they play obnoxious, Rapp type music, its very annoying. They do have tv monitors available in the main gym area to watch while your on a treadmill and you can listen to them using an fm radio if you'd like but of course they don't have any headsets to borrow or purchase.

So, what's the good part of Bally's ?
Simply the location and cost.

I was always told to give credit where credit is due so, I wanted to make a comment that I went to Ballys as usual tonight and to my surprise, they actually had fixed the showers and replaced all of the shower heads. I just wanted to say "thanks" to the manager or who ever arranged to get this done..

My membership is paid by my insurance company. I have been going to another club and I was happy with everything. I decided to go to Bally and try it. Wow what a different. Horrible people in Bally not mention materialistic. The man who signed me told me I have to pay him 375 dollars a month to get my exercise done and my membership is paid off and free. My other club gave me a free service and where always helpful. I never came back to Bally. Bally is nothing but a bunch of crocks. I will go back to my old club this week.

Don't ever go there! The whole club is split between dark and dingy to extra bright. Barely any music, mostly you just hear the sounds of the machines and people. The good classes cost $5.00 on top of your membership fee ($30.00 per month on a 3 yr!). Access to all bally clubs is extra as well.
Read the fine print in the contracts, because the employees will promise you anything! I was promised multiple times that it would cost only $50.00 to cancel - the fact that this is only valid if you move and no Bally club is within 25 miles of your new home was never mentioned!
They basically have you sign a loan agreement(with you social security number)!
Check out what the Better Business Bureau has to say about them!
