Awesome restaurant, amazing views and killer Mai Tai's
I've been to Bali Hai a few times, most recently yesterday while sailing with friends. Awseome restaurant on Shelter island accessible by car or boat. Incredible huge views of the bay. Feels like you are in Polynesia. Staff is very nice and friendly. The food is good, I've always enjoyed their coconut shrimp, crab cakes, for app's and love their kona chicked salad and asian chicken salad. This is a great restaurant to impress out of out town visitors, dates and for business meetings let alone a casual day. You can't go wrong.

I've been to Bali Hai a couple times in the past and it's a great place to take people from out of town. Located at Shelter Island, the whole wall is glass so it looks over the water and you can see the lights and buildings of what I think is downtown (I don't really have any sense of direction, but rest assured, it's a scenic view.) I’ve noticed there is always a wedding reception taking place each time I visit, so that should be proof of how beautiful and romantic this place is!

They are also known by locals for having the stiffest and most delicious Mai Tais around - just be careful because they are strong!! And the food ain't bad either! Think Hawaiian food / Asian Fusion. Last time I dined, I believe an entree included a soup and salad to start. But regardless of what you order for your main course, don’t forget their famous Mai Tai!
Pros: Beautiful views, courteous staff, best Mai Tais in town

You get what you pay for + more!
I’d only come here during the night time. My first time here, I came during the day to take advantage of their lunch specials and then I realized why it’s deserted during the afternoon. During the night, this place is GORGEOUS. You’re surrounded by a huge body of water, pretty lights and a romantic atmosphere. I wouldn’t say this is a ‘family-setting’ but this is a definite place for a date. The waiters and servers are nice. They keep on top of things and refill your drink before you ask them to which I think is pretty rare. The prices are kinda high but once you try their food, you will forget how much you’re gonna pay and focus on the taste. I ordered this salmon stuffed pastry and I literally went home and dreamt about what I ate. It was the BEST meal I’ve had in such a long time. It looked weird on the plate because it was ‘culinary-presented’ that I didn’t wanna touch it but once I dug in, I devoured it! You get the island feel in this place too. The music isn’t too loud and this place is overall, a very nice place to treat yourselves out!

Breathtaking view
A friend of mine just took me here for a nice birthday dinner. Apparently, they just completed a remodel of the entire restaurant, so everything is in great condition. The view is absolutely amazing! From any table in the restaurant you can see the downtown San Diego skyline. The food was delicious, and the server was very helpful in identifying some of the more popular dishes. What this place is best known for is their 100% alcohol mai-tai. This means there is zero juice. The flavor definitely takes a bit to get used to, but it was really good. Definitely don’t have more than one, or you will be paying for it later.

I have been to Bali Hai twice last year and I have to say that my second time was as pleasant as the first. The Mai Tai's are where it's at. You can't beat the location. You can see the downtown San Diego sky scrapers from here.
