I was an inpatient twice at this facility. The psychiatrist that treated me, was above and beyond high exceptions.

I have had the opportunity to use this facility on several occasions, for various problems, and have always received excellent, effective care. The psychiatrists at Vista Del Mar are good, but are committed to their particular approaches however, and don't come to 'think out of the box' too easily. Because they offer the only acute-care addiction facilities in the area, they get a lot of addict referrals and treat all patients with equal respect and dignity regardless of why they are there. The food was excellent with proper portions, and of course there is a dietitian for special diets. The grounds are well kept and quiet, with the absolute most beautiful ocean views in Ventura. Overall Vista Del Mar is a nice place to go, and makes an otherwise unpleasant experience an opportunity for successful recovery.

This is not the place for old people. Staff is rude and unhelpful. My father was put there on Thursday night (its Tuesday now) and we have yet to hear what his diagnosis is. He has been injured twice by other patients and had to visit the ER today. Do not let your elderly family or loved ones be admitted to this place. Most of the patients are drug addicts and violent.

Their approach to mental health is Treat & Street. There needs to be a wide spread systematic change in their system of treatment! Their case workers do not stay with a patient through out the stay and there is no constancy in the rules that are put forward to the clients. The clients are looking for a sense of stability and the hospital with the procedures in place do not show that to them. Have been very disappointed with the ability to create a positive prognosis and treatment plan.

I find the main phone number ringing endlessly, at 7:40 pm, unacceptable. No answer at all? No message? No way to communicate? Would never recommend this place. My sister could not get BASIC medical(not talking psych) attention she needed; we hope to transfer her soon to a professional facility. Put a patient with asthma and allergies with a constant smoker? Does that make sense?? Nothing excellent about care here.‎
