Food stain on clothes, horrible service
A first time customer at Art's, I dropped off two pairs of pants to be hemmed. The owner was grouchy at first but I assumed it was just part of his persona, like a grumpy uncle who, underneath it all, has a heart of gold. The shop looked nice enough.
I picked up my hemmed pants, brought them home, and discovered some sort of food (chocolate? refried beans? I didn't care to figure it out) smeared on one of the pant legs. These were brand-new pants, straight from the store, with the tags still on. The stain was new, and, since it was located two inches away from the hem, there was no way they would have missed it if it had been there when I first brought in the pants.
To give Art's the chance to do the right thing I went back and showed them the stain. The owner scraped at the food with his fingernail (yuck!), took some of it off and said, "What stain? There's nothing there!" When I told him that one could still see the food stain he got defensive: "What do you want me to do about it?!" I said I thought he should pay for the cleaning and he got abusive and started yelling to try to intimidate me. I remained calm; he got madder. I told him this seemed like a bad business practice to do a poor and dirty job and then yell at the customer; finally in a fit he threw $3 at me to "pay for the cleaning" (which, of course, it wouldn't.)
I left the money and the store and, unfortunately will never go back. If you enjoy poor service and being yelled at by an abusive man go to Art's. But go elsewhere if you would like decent and clean tailoring!
