Avoid Pet Stores for Puppies by Kelsey N. at InsiderPages
There will always be mixed reviews when it comes to buying puppies from pet stores. The straightforward truth is that you should never do it. Yes, there will be those who are lucky and find a healthy, good tempered animal from these places, obviously, but there is no way to guarantee or predict that outcome.
Where do you think those puppies spend the night when the store closes? Where do you think those puppies are when the lights are out? Those dogs you see in the cage will be in that cage until they are purchased or die. That is the simple truth. They aren't potty trained while they're in there, they aren't outside where they should be, and they don't receive normal interaction with people like a healthy dog should.
I worked in a pet store for 2 years. If any person could see what I have seen, they would be sickened at the sight of a wall of puppies in cages, with price tags that rival cars. Don't think that by buying them will save them. It is only feeding a monster of a trade that should be forever extinguished.
If you want a puppy, go to a person that has them in their home. Make sure they are loved and cared for, and were exposed to people and the outdoors. Look for them in the paper and the internet. And for goodness sake, make sure you love them yourself.
