Extremely overpriced, upsells, dishonest...
Went in for a simple brake job, and was quoted $275 per axle. Was also up-sold on a brake flush: according to the owner "no other place in town does that." Employees also assume that the consumer has no knowledge of car's systems and mentioned that "consumers" can't do their own brakes as well their mechanics can. While I was there, a lady came in for an oil change and some other service, and the bill was nearly $400. If you don't complain about their price, they will give you service with a smile :D Brakes are $20 at your local auto parts store. Get a manual or a buddy or search "change your own brakes" and DIY for $20.‎

If your looking for brake and other car repairs in Lafayette and the surrounding area, American Brake is the place to go. I have been using them for over 10 years now and not only is Larry-the owner honest, he is kind and funny. They do excellent work and they are quick to help you. These are some of the finest, most professional people in the industry. I've been going to them since they opened over 11 years ago. They are family owned, and the owner Larry is very funny and kind. (I just learned he previosly worked at IBM as an engineer for nearly 30 years - I didn't know my brake guy was so smart.) Larry always has coffee, and my husband and I usually bring a laptop since they have a clean, spaceous lobby with WiFi in their new facility. His son Ben is also very kind, and I feel like they go out of their way to do a great job. My husband and I trust their workmanship, character and their prices can't be beat. Larry even drops me off at work and picks me up when my vehicle is done when I am in a pinch. We'll never go anywhere else in Lafayette. If you haven't stopped by their new automotive center, you won't find a better one in Lafayette.

Cannot close the car hood!
Cannot close the car hood!: The place was clean and well organised. Did oil changes and brakes efficiently and not too expensive.

However, one day the manager told me that he could not close the car hood and that I had to go to a dealership to replace the latch. Indeed, it was difficult to oil and loosen the latch, but an auto mechanic should have tools and knowledge to do it. I did it at home using WD-40 and a screwdriver.
