I went into this dump to buy surround sound speakers / sub woofer system... (don't know what I thinking as I had been in the store to purchase a plasma tv before and was told I would have to put a $500 deposit down to get the one I was interested in and that was NOT in stock) ... something they specialize in and are listed on the this particular speaker manufacturer's website as providing the highest level of service... Not only did they NOT have the speaker / sub woofer system on display to be heard... they wanted me to wait 15 minutes so that they could go to the warehouse, bring it back and set it up for audition..... Are you kidding me? They have 2 people in the store doing absolutely NOTHING... and I have to wait for these clowns to go someplace to bring the product back and then wait further for setup??? Obviously the manufacturer has no idea this kind of lunacy is going on because there is no way they would call this "the highest level of service" ...

Bottom line is I have tried to do business with these morons twice now.... they will NOT GET A THIRD chance.... EVER ... NEVER!!!!! Further I will discourage anyone from going there.... there are many other options in town... to be sure.... Twice ISN'T nice! I wouldn't relieve myself on this landfill if it was on fire and was the only place left on earth to purchase from.... In a minute I will tell you how I really feel!!!!!

I love this place! Henry Altermen can talk a bit over your head- but he's in the business and is supposed to be wrapped up in the minutiae of gadgetry. All the salespeople do very well with keeping it real for the rest of us; I like that I can walk in and say "I want classic two channel stereo that'll knock the plaster off the neighbors walls"( LOL) and I can walk out with stuff better than I ever thought existed. The staff here lives to make you happy. Anything you want you can have.
They're also the biggest and best dealers for Boston Aucoustics in the region; 'nuff said? If you don't know what that means they'll show you. Lots of demo. Lots of amazing technology! What fine toys...
Alterman seems slightly pricier than a big box store at first, but the quality of equipment you get makes them truly the better bargain. My last system before the storm made me happy every day for eight years and the price was excellent for what it was. The new stuff- including Boston VH1s- still kinda scares me it's so astonishing. And it wasn't that pricey for what it is.
At Christmas 2005, After the Deluge, there was a line almost out the door to replace stuff. And people waited, because Alterman customers always come back. You get spoiled ;-D.

i went into the store with the intentions on buying my husband a nice birthday present. the OWNER approached my daughter and i and automatically started telling me what i wanted and did not even listen to what i was saying. he was extremely snobby for no reason and acted as if i had no business being in his store and that i could not afford anything in there. i was dressed nice as always and my daughter was on her best behavior and if he only knew the money i was willing to spend. i would not visit his store again and if he was giving home theaters away i would not give him the time of day. this was the Owner once again!
