The candy, food and delightful surprises here are well worth the moderatly expensive price (single truffle=2$). Their rich chocolate based drinks are spectacular and the gilded chocolate 'icon's are exotic.

Skip all other chocolates. Go here. Don't worry about the calories, just enjoy the best locally made chocolate...perhaps, the best chocolate in the WORLD.

The chocolate covered figs (stuffed with blue cheese) are to DIE FOR. Get there early, they sell out!

By far my fav chocolate, and that is saying something since I am a freak about chocolate. Salted caramels.......... fanciful molded chocolates covered in pure gold leaf.......... great for gifts. I love Alma!

this place is great, from the moment you enter -where the chocolate aroma envelopes you-until your purchase is artfully boxed, wrapped in ribbon and given a beautiful tag. I'm psyched that now it is also open on Sundays so i can visit more often! a true gem of a place, small and intimate, yet containing delicious treats from around the globe!...and don't get me started on the drinking chocolate!! outrageous deliciousness!!

And I know chocolate!!! I first became addicted to Alma while frequenting the Portland Farmers Market and was delighted to discover that their store location is walking distance from my house. The lavender infused caramel enrobed in dark chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt is my favorite treat ever! The store is very small and interesting with gold gilded dark chocolate religious icons (no focus on one in particular), solid chocolate bars from around the world and that case full of delicious and unique truffles (as well as a variety of chocolate covered brittle-the ginger and dark chocolate is amazing). The women who work there have always been absolutely wonderful and sweet to me-even throwing in little treats and an occasional truffle sample once in a while! I love this place! I try to go there every Saturday and I love giving their truffles as gifts (although I always have to pick up something for myself too :) )
