I am in LOVE
So I have become a little obsessed with alcove over the last year or so. I love bringing people here, especially who aren't from the area. It is such a cute atmosphere and great for a casual date, family or friends. The food is fresh and comforting and great for breakfast lunh and dinner. They have a good variety so i can always find something i want. and the desserts!!!! there is no way to describe, if you are too full to try then get one to go! And very importantly the customers aren't pretentious and the staff is very friendly and helpful unlike some other similar outdoor cafes in the LA area.

great food
it's just like urth cafe. you order and pay for it 1st (which i personally find annoying). perhaps this place has slower service than urth, but the food/desserts more than makes up for it. there's a cheese&meats store connected to the place so while you wait for your food to come out to your table (which takes forever), i recommend checking out samples of their cheese selection- the guy behind the counter is really friendly and helpful. their fig cakes are delicious too! anyway, the food at the alcove will not disappoint. it's good to sit out at the patio & watch occasional celebs hang out & dine. but again, the food is GREAT!

Early bird gets the ....
food and table! I really do like this place...it is charming and has a large menu selection. But come early if you want to enjoy your experience....you can enjoy your coffee and actually read the paper. Anytime after 10 am, forget it!... its too crowded, the line gets too long, and finding a table is just impossible. They should really start bringing your drinks to your table during rush hour at least since there's no place to wait inside when its busy.

I would rather eat glass
I hate this place. I am a neighborhood local and detest the overpriced, poor food and weird sense of having to tip for no service. I have tried and tried. I am done. Lower your price and your attitude. Scientologist welcome.

Decent food, oppressive atmosphere
This place is really convenient to my apartment, and I would like to give it a better rating. It's in a converted house, and the renovation was very nicely done. I think it may have started as a coffee/dessert shop, but its aspirations grew. They serve sandwiches, salads, and griddle items. The food is really not bad, but it is so outrageously crowded that the whole thing is ruined. It feels like the Tokyo subway inside. Outside, although there is a nice patio, you have to be willing to throw elbows to get a table. They now have a table busboy who is supposed to seat you in order, but that system does not seem to be working too well. Even ordering food to-go can be a hassle.
Crowded day and night. Not worth it to me anymore. There are other good places to eat with fewer aspiring Hollywood types.
