Alakazam is a very good comic shop. The have a wide range of comics--from the latest popular DC/Marvel to a fairly strong selection of the independents. The graphic novel and trades are kept up to date and they have most of the classics from the past. They are strong in Manga and other kinds of rather non standard comics. They have Magic cards, figurines, t-shirts and other ephemera. The staff is awesome--a combination of long time comics employees and clever UCI kids filling in. This is by far the strongest aspect of this shop--a knowledgeable fun staff that is keeping the traditions of comicdom alive. Just about every time I walk out of this shop I have a huge smile on my face based on the latest rants going on in the shop. The best part of Alakazam, however, is their pull service. They will add stuff that they think you might like, they will call when you have not been in to pick up for a while, it is a very no hassle set up. The store is conveniently located near UCI, so that's a good thing, but it's very small and has not that good of a selection to choose from for manga. A good thing about this store is that you can rent manga or videos, but once again, selection is kind of limited.
