Inactive Staff
I went by Active Staffing Services on a Friday to register for a much needed job. I had called the office before I showed up and told to bring in one piece of picture ID and Social Security card. No problem. When I arrived at 9:45a.m. I stood at the counter for over 5 minutes while employees socialized with each other. No one gave me any eye contact. In the rear of the office were loud talking Black and Latino youth, who looked like they belonged in school more than a temp agency at that hour, sitting around on folding chairs waiting to be interviewed by nonchalant counselors.
Finally, I was acknowledged by one of the male staff members and told registration applications were only given out on Mondays. That statement made no sense to me and was never told to me when I called them on the telephone. I didn't debate the issue, thanked the guy and walked out with no intention of ever returning.
Avoid this place unless you've just been released from jail or have a felony record. Don't appear to be too intelligent or articulate or you may not get an application. And heaven forbid if a fire ever breaks out there and people have to escape via the hallway staircase wide enough for one person.
If the people Active Staffing Services hires as temps are as unprofessional as the employees I witnessed, I don't see how they maintain a client base. Bad news.
