I've been a customer at Acorn Hill for my pets for over 30 years. I've gone to other vets and have been severely dissappointed. Dr. Johnson is "veteran-vetinarian" and knows his animals very well. He will not overtreat your pet with invasive and painfull treatments just to make a buck. I do not know a better, more knowledgable vet in Texas. I took one of my pets to another vet for a cough. They conducted an x-ray a CT scan told me that my dog might have cancer, conducted a tracheoscope and cost me over 1000$. In the end, they told me that he had a host of "potential" problems. I took him to Dr. Johnson who felt my pet's throat, induced a cough and said "He's got a collapsed trachea." He gave me a treatment plan and medicine and my dog has been perfectly fine for years...all for $40. I really trust Dr. Johnson and, eventhough I live in Dallas, I still come to San Antonio to get him treated. Another example are the shots. I took my dog to get his shots in Dallas at Pets Mart. They wanted to charge me $300 and tried to add all these "extras" that they tried to sell as "necessary" that increased the price to over $500. I take him to Acorn Hill and his "necessary" shots are less than $100.
Pros: GREAT VALUE! EXPERIENCED VET! NO FRILLS AND NO GIMMICKS!
Cons: For me, there are no Cons. If you, however, are interested in paying for the atmosphere despite the quality of care your pet recieves, then this is probably not your place, you'd do better to get ripped off elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, the place is clean and well kept, but it's also small and practical.
